Pediatric Eye Exams

Pediatric Eye Exams

Early identification of a child's vision problem is crucial

Complete Family Eyecare offers comprehensive pediatric eye examinations

As a parent, it can be hard to decide when a first eye examination should be scheduled or how to know if your child may need glasses. Eye development and the connection to the brain occur between the ages of 3 month to 9 years old, and as such early detection of your child's vision problem is imperative to preventing further problems or even vision loss. All children should have their eyes first examined at the age of 6 months, then again at the age of 3, and then annually after the start of school.

Children learn mainly through vision, and children need the basic visual skills for learning:

- Focusing skills
- Eye/hand coordination
- Peripheral awareness
- Eye movement skills to follow words on a line
- Using both eyes, and being able to see 3D
- Colour vision
- and more!

Protect your child's vision, if you notice any symptoms or your child has not had an eye exam as per the guidelines above, call or stop by Complete Family Eyecare in North York, Ontario! In addition, if you wish to know more about pediatric eye exams, please contact one of our optometrists.
